Piston Weight vs Piston Type

The red line on the graph represents the weight above which we would have to add weight to the crankshaft.  This is very difficult to do.

Steel pistons have not been used because of their weight.  We can now use them for most applications.  Titanium wrist pins and/or titanium stabilizers bars will reduce the weight as shown with the one ring titanium piston versus the one ring piston which uses steel for both. The lightest piston would be aluminum with a titanium wrist pin and stabilizer bars.
